Our Environmental Stewardship Pathway is for students interested in natural resources, resource management, the environmental effects of consumerism, and how to live in sync with the environment.

PLEASE NOTE: Each course listed below is worth one credit. Students complete at least 3 of these courses in a semester (earning a total of three credits), but are most welcome to complete more if they wish.


Introductory

ENS1030: Consumerism

Students develop an understanding of consumerism and consumption rates, their complexity and how they impact sustainable development.

ENS1040: Living with the Environment

Students develop an understanding of how humans interact with their natural and built environments. Students also investigate methods to monitor and measure the quality of natural and built environments in order to maintain healthy and sustainable environments.

ENS1110: Natural Resources


Students analyze the nature and extent of Alberta’s natural resource, including air, water, soil, land, hydrocarbons,
minerals, forests and wildlife and present the results of research on one or more issues related to sustainable resource
development.

Intermediate

ENS2030: Ecological Economics

Students examine the economic effects of local, provincial, national and international environmental policies and look at
issues such as the costs and benefits of alternative environmental policies to deal with air pollution, water quality, toxic
substances, solid waste and global warming.

Advanced

ENS3040: Energy & The Environment

Students assess the social, economic and environmental benefits and costs of resource development and demonstrate personal and shared actions that foster energy conservation and environmental stewardship.

ENS3050: Environmental Politics

Students assess the social, economic and environmental benefits and costs of resource development and demonstrate personal and shared actions that foster energy conservation and environmental stewardship.
